Checking Whether Errors Exist in the Analysis
Since timber building systems contain a large number of elements, errors can occur in the finite element analysis when element connections are not made properly.
The main points to understand whether an error has occurred are listed below.
1- If the building periods give a NAN (Not a Number) error during the analysis when the option "Perform modal analysis using the finite element stiffness matrix" is selected, or if the analysis is interrupted midway, the finite element model of the system must be corrected.
2- In some cases, when the analysis is completed using the method 4.26 or the empirical method for the dominant vibration period of the building, or when the "Perform modal analysis using the finite element stiffness matrix" option is inactive (modal analysis is performed using the shear frame method), it should be verified that the TPX and TPY periods of the building in the seismic forces report acting on the storeys are reasonable values and do not contain values such as 9.99999. If they do, the system model must be checked and corrected.
3- When obtaining the column bottom-end section force report or the shear wall/wall bottom-end section force report (which are sub-headings of finite element results in the calculation reports), it should be checked whether the values are infinite (value of 9.999999 in the cells).
4- After the analysis, press the NVM button on the right side of the main screen. In the dialog box that appears, select the "Show displacements" checkbox in the Displacement tab, and examine the uz displacements under G loads, ux displacements under EX1 loading, and uy displacements under EY1 loading. If there is an element with an unconnected excessive displacement, select the "Show bar element names" option in the Model tab to identify which element it is, then select the relevant element on the 2D screen (using the Find command if necessary) and correct its connection status with the other elements.
