Analysis of Mixed-Structure Buildings

In buildings with reinforced concrete lower storeys and masonry upper storeys, the lower storeys are modelled using a vertical bond beam – beam – bond beam – slab system. The masonry storeys are modelled in the usual way. The building is then analysed. After the analysis, the results for the reinforced concrete storeys are not evaluated using our software. Only the results for the masonry storeys are examined. The reinforced concrete storeys are modelled solely for the purpose of correctly calculating earthquake forces and earthquake heights. If a risky-building analysis is being performed and the masonry storeys have not been found to be at risk, the building is then modelled in reinforced concrete software. In the results of that reinforced concrete software model, only the results for the reinforced concrete storeys are taken into account. The results for the masonry storeys are disregarded.
